Thanet Centre of Mission

The Thanet Centre of Mission brings hope to communities in Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and the surrounding villages on the east coast of Kent. Across the deanery, there continues to be good collaboration between the Centre and other agencies including the Police, Food Link, schools, Manston Army base and community projects. Its work includes:

Prayer CarePrayer Care
We and our teams of volunteers have a passion to help older people live more fulfilled lives. We visit residential care homes on a regular basis and build relationships with residents, family members, staff and management. We seek to show God’s love through prayer, interaction, laughter and a listening ear. We are an ecumenical bunch that are learning and listening to God together.

Ignite
Ignite seeks to build community by creating an environment where people are valued and accepted, and enjoy being with each other. Each week’s main event has a Christian theme, which may be subtle or overt. Thus each event touches on our relationship with God, through Jesus. It has been likened to Messy Church for adults.

St Georges Ramsgate Project
We have a remit to go out and build community: to engage, listen, build bridges, develop partnerships and show God’s love in a practical and relevant way. A completely blank canvas!

Men’s ministry
Helping churches develop creative ways of engaging and reaching out to the men in their communities. This is achieved through training, resourcing, enabling and partnering.

Thanet winter shelter
It has been recognised that during the coldest winter months there is a need for temporary accommodation for the most vulnerable in our society. We are happy to be part of the team that is ensuring the need to sleep on the streets is a thing of the past. Our aim is that through building relationships we can sign-post individuals to the right support network.

Dream Team
The Dream Team is an exciting new venture aiming to “enthuse the pews” with reaching out to our local communities in mission and evangelism. Through meeting regularly for worship, teaching and encouragement, the Dream Team will explore how we can engage in our communities and make a difference by sharing God’s love in a society that may well have forgotten what that means. We are inviting everyone to get involved as we share ideas, resources, gifts and our infectious enthusiasm as we discover together God’s mission plan for Thanet and the part we can all play in making it a reality! You can watch a film about Dream Team on YouTube.

Schools work
We are involved with Dame Janet Primary Academy, taking assemblies and visiting each classroom on a weekly rota, telling a Bible story and exploring its application in our lives today. We are also a part of Schools+, an ecumenical group who run Christmas Unwrapped and Easter Cracked events for year 6 pupils across many different primary schools.

Faith Pictures
We are finding this resource a great tool, not only do the people taking part really enjoy it and get so much from it, but it is a fun way for us to meet and engage with churches and individuals and journey with them as they explore how to share their faith with others.
